Silent Film Stars

Collectible cards and portraits were a popular advertising material and well loved amongst the film fans in the beginning of the 20th century. They showcase the early phases of stardom and fan culture in the film industry. The appeal to keep you cinema stars right in your pocket and compose your own album of personal favourites made these mass products so appealing - and widely distributed, which becomes apparent in the collections featured in this gallery that spread across the whole of Europe.
