Most of the illustrations come from the collections of the library and the archives of Meise Botanic Garden, Belgium. These collections are the property of the Belgian State, on permanent loan to the Meise Botanic Garden.
The book collection encompasses all aspects of botany and related subjects, including horticulture, ecology, natural history, taxonomy, history of science and more. The collection primarily presents content dating from the invention of the printing press (in the middle of the 15th century) up to the 21st century. It is mainly focused on Belgium, the neighbouring countries and Central Africa The archives date back to well into the 19th century. In addition to paper documents and letters, the Meise Botanic Garden also stores photographs, glass negatives, field notes, watercolours and original drawings.
